We've recently added a new system to our repertoire. Edge of The Empire is the new, narrative rpg from Fantasy Flight Games. Released so far is the Beta edition of the core book and the Beginner's Game.

Star Wars: The Edge Of The Empire Game-layout

I decided to try out the system using the Beginner's Box, as it's tailor - made to introduce new players to the system, through means of actual play. You're provided with pre-generated characters and an adventure to walk them through which teaches you the rules as you go.

Our two heroes are Lowhhrick (a Wookiee hired gun) and Pash (a down on his luck smuggler). Lowhhrick is played by Mike, with Chris taking on Pash.

We begin in media res, with a pursuit through the streets of Mos Shuuta, a small ciity on Tatooine. Having upset Teemo the Hutt, Lowhhrick and Pash are desperately fleeing from the Hutt's Gamorrean goons. Taking temporary refuge in a cantina, the boys learn that a freighter sits ripe for liberation in a nearby landing bay. Using guile and bare faced cheek, Pash manages to liberate a spare part needed before the ship can depart.

Realising that the Krayt Fang is held by docking clamps while it's captain engages in some shady business, Pash and Lowhhrick make a daring raid on the city's command and control centre to make preparations for their escape. Barely evading a stormtrooper patrol on their way back to the docking bay, our heroes manage to talk their way into the docking bay, before the Krayt Fang's master, a Trandoshian slaver named Drex, smell's a rat.

Once the slaver is erm...convinced to give up his ship, the Krayt Fang blasts off. Fighting their way though some patrolling TIE fighter's, the team jump to lightspeed and make good their escape ... or so they think.

This session was quite a railroad, although this was by design as we were following the planned adventure in the Beginner's Box as intended.

Next up is part 1 of Long Arm Of The Hutt, the direct sequel which picks up where we left off.
