Bye, bye Brigadier.
I can scarcely believe that it's me posting this but as some of you may not know, Nicholas Courtney aka The Brigadier from Doctor Who has passed away. Very sad news.

Re: Bye, bye Brigadier.
Mike broke the sad news to me on the train yesterday morning whilst on the way to Reading. Very sad to think that we wont be seeing any further TV appearances from Nick Courtney in his famous role as the Brigadier (or General) Lethbridge Stewart.
His character has been the longest running companion (and arguably the most loved) in Doctor Who history, notching-up an impressive 23 adventures between 1968 and 1989. After reprising the role in 1993's CIN special ‘Dimensions in Time’, he became unique amongst all companions by having stared alongside all 7 TV Doctors.
He would later continue his association with the series by reprising his role through some of the Big Finish audio dramas which also gave him the chance to team-up with the Eighth Doctor too and maintain his record-breaking run. I think it’s such a shame that he didn’t get the chance to return again when the show came back in 2005 and team-up one last time with Eccleston, Tennant and Smith. His last role as the Brigadier was in two-episodes of The Sarah-Janes Adventures in 2008 in which he helped save the world one last time from the Bane and Sontarans.
To quote from the 1989 serial Battlefield:-
The Destroyer: “Pitiful. Can your world do no better than you as their champion?”
The Brigadier: “Probably. I just do the best I can.”
Yes, you certainly did Nick and we will miss you terribly sir.
