Kings of War - Mantic Games

The beta of the Mantic Games fantasy rules are available for download here.

After giving these rules an initial scan they didn't seem particarly inspiring - seeming very WFB lite in nature. However having given them a second more thorough reading (and having read the army lists) they actually seem rather better than they first appear; a nice streamlined set of mass fantasy combat rules. There's nothing particularly original here, but it look pretty solid and should play quickly.

I especially like:-

• The simple LOS rules where everything is measured from the unit's champion.

• The way movement is handled, which looks like it should make the mass movement of troops quick and painless.

• The way the army list works by making troop formations a set size allowing you to build your army in chunks.

Probably not to everyone's taste, but I do like simple fast rulesets.
