Christmas Get-Together Empty Christmas Get-Together

Post by Renny 22nd November 2010, 20:02

That time of year is fast approaching and I have a proposal to allow for a relaxed social get together. I propose we meet at one of our regular gaming venues (i.e. Digger's or Chris'). We meet on a weeknight evening, 2nd or 3rd week in December. Each of us turn up with our preferred take away meal of choice, be it pizza, indian, chinese, F&C or whatever and a beverage or two. No catering therefore required on the part of the host and you only have to spend what you want. We then either stick in a movie designed to allow minimum concentration required (i'm looking at you Hawk The Slayer or Krull) and maximum banter or each of us propose an episode of one of our favourite animated shows or half hour sitcoms (Blackadder, Red Dwarf etc). Hopefully this will allow for maximum time spent mucking about and generally having a nice time. This year i'm not really feeling the desire to go and hang out at some crowded restaurant where we can't have a conversation. Does anyone else think this idea has promise? It would be really good to get as many of us together as possible.

Sounds great to me! My place will be free given enough notice and I shall probably do a chilli for all. Very Happy

Sounds great and am happy to volunteer my place too if required. I like the idea of us bringing our own takeaway meals and then sitting round to watch a half-hour episode from our favourite sitcoms or animated shows - (perhaps a festively themed edition such as Blackadders Christmas Carol). The only day Im have booked-up so far is Friday 10th so am free on any other night.

Ah, but Mr D the whole point is that you don't have to do a chilli as you do that every time.
My takeaway will likely be chinese. I'm guessing that from the replies so far the half hour episode idea seems the favourite. My episode will either be "Jen The Fredo", or "The Works Outing", from the IT Crowd. Haven't decided which one yet. I might also stick on "The Collect Call Of Cthulhu" episode of The Real Ghostbusters animated show if we have time. Let's hear your nominations.

So, 21st December at Digger's is the setting for know.

Choices so far, out of interest;

Steve - Chinese takeaway, IT Crowd/The Real Ghostbusters
Mike - Food choice unknown, episode unknown.
Chris - KFC, Thundercats
Digger - Chilli, West Wing or possibly CSI.
Kevin - Food choice unknown, Tales Of The Gold Monkey/The Green Loontern.
Steve Brooks - Attendance unconfirmed at the moment.
Russ - Attendance unconfirmed at the moment.

Steve B and Russ, if this date does not suit, please advise and we'll see if we can accommodate. We are all keen for you to be there . I may be able to do another date at a push but need to know sooner rather than later. Let us know your take away preference and episode choice also.

I'm afraid my preference would be for a Saturday rather than a week day, so proceed without me gentleman and expect me if you see me.

Not so fast off the hook, sir. Which Saturday are you thinking of? Give us some dates so we can discuss. I don't normally like to get together at the weekend but I can make an exception if need be.

Just a thought,
As this will most likely be mid week and we will most likely not want to burn the midnight oil, might i suggest that we limit the shows to 30 mins each, with 7 of us that means we can watch what everyone brings

I am also available for a Saturday get-together. As we wouldnt have to go to work we could then meet earlier and finish later if required and also allow attendees to pick slightly longer episodes without having to cram everything into a short time-frame.

Not necessarily true for those of us with family committments, unfortunatley. I probably wouldn't be able to allocate any more time. That said, there's no reason why the event couldn't kick off earlier and then those of us who need to turn up later, do just that.
