Race Family Boardgame Night
So tonight we had our first family boardgame night. Pizza duly ordered, we sat down to play Kill Dr Lucky (thanks, Chris). A good choice of game as it's fast moving and visually appealing for Maddie. Also has a wry sense of humour which always goes down well. The first game ticked along nicely although I made a few rules gaffes initially. Once i'd remembered that you add spite chips to your murder value, Maddie swooped and took victory very quickly. The second game went much quicker, and due to a lack of Failure cards going out early, Caroline won the second game in short order. Really enjoyed the evening, although I didn't win. It was gratifying to see Maddie pick up the tactics of the game so well.

In that case might I also suggest borrowing Chris' Ticket to Ride game. Again simple concepts, easy to pick up, nicely coloured board and pieces and enough depth and oppurtunity for 'stitch ups' to keep the grown-ups happy.

Tonight was boardgame night 2. This time we picked up an old classic, Monopoly. Haven't played it for years and had forgotten what fun it can be. After an epic 2 1/4 hours, Maddie was the winner, having bankrupted Caroline first and then finishing the game with an amazing 36 times as much cash as me .

Boardgame night 3 tonight. Chinese food and Cluedo. The game was picked up quickly by all despite only Caroline having played it before. Caroline won the Poirot props by deducing the culprit was Miss White on the patio with the rope. Close game though as I was probably two rounds away from getting the clues with Maddie one or two behind me.

Boardgame night 4 after a couple of weeks off. Ticket to Ride tonight. Ate Tacos first and had epic ice cream sundaes before getting stuck into the game. Maddie and Carly picked the game up very quickly, and Carly especially was very taken with it, to the extent that she wants to but a copy for us to keep. You may not be surprised to hear that she won the game convincingly, with myself and Maddie a distant 2nd and 3rd. All enjoyed it, though and had a very nice evening.

Addendum: Carly challenged me to more Ticket To Ride tonight. We played three games with her claiming two out of three wins. The last game, in particular, she obliterated me . I should try and hook her up with you guys on a Wednesday night.
