RPG and Me Empty RPG and Me

I thought, given the shake up that is currently taking place, i would attempt to give a insight to what i get out of and what i (think i) put in to games.

Running Games
I love coming up with games, most tend to be a word or a image, i wrote my 3 part Arc adventure based on the cover of a book. the creative juices just flow and something come out some times it works and some times it don't, some times all i have is a paragraph for a 3 week game making it up as i go and sometimes a 20 page book. before i hooked up with you guys i was writing long campaigns in the same way but the end was much further away. C&S i ran for 18 Months and have a 50 page adventure book that i wrote.
so what i get out of running games is seeing the idea become a game and the game be enjoyed buy the group. it is always better if the group is engaged in the PC's and the game. but i will play for the sake of playing with or with out the some player getting fully engaged. and that goes for systems if everyone wanted to play an adventure in a system i did like i would do it anyway as it is all about the process if idea to the roll of the final dice. I ran a D&D D20 game for a year. the players were useless and the systems was naff but it was a game and that was the important bit.

Playing Games
If i could i would exclusively play complex investigatory adventures that have twists and red herrings and stuff. as that would be my favorite type of game. BUT i play because i enjoy RPGing i will play in anything and have tried most genres, not too fussed on Live role-playing. but if that was the only weekly game i could get then...
I would rather play a rubbish game than not play. it is for me all about just being there rolling dice.

I know some of that sounds arrogant but it may explain my approach to gaming

I don't think it sounds arrogant at all.

I am always blown away by how much creative effort you put into your adventures. The lack of time I have to invest in writing is what's holding me back more than anything at the moment, I think. I've enjoyed all the games you've run, for different reasons. But I never expect the obvious from you.

thank you.

i was hoping that everyone would do a simular post. which could help to gauge games in the future. if that makes sense. because whilst we may think we know it maybe interesting to find out?

For my part the most important thing about RPing is character. Creating a character and then trying to play that character as conceived. Not just a scenario solving machine that will be brave, cowardly, kind and cruel as dictated by the current needs of the scenario. I'm not talking about 50-pages of background notes and history either. Consistency is the thing in terms of characters for me - whether I'm running or playing. Not necessarily talking about roleplaying the character and interacting with NPCs, just being consistent in characterisation. Good examples of this are Flintly and Jersey. Solving the scenario will always play second fiddle to being [gag] 'true to the character concept'. Saying that however I would like to think that I don't come up with characters that screw over a game and ruin it. They may often be lechers, cowards or drunks (sometimes all three) but are never conceived to jackknife someone's game or the other player's enjoyment (I hope, I could be wrong...)

I also like pulp games. I don't simply mean stories set in the '30's or full of action and adventure. I mean stories that have good guys and bad guys, white hats and black hats. In other words; heroes. They don't have to be boy-scout types, but if there is no real difference in how the supposed heroic PCs act and the NPC villains...

In short I'm a summer blockbuster gamer. Action, adventures, heroes, villains and a few good quotable lines.
