Defeat!!(not mine)

Post by Heidi on 10th June 2010, 07:59

Well, here I sit outside in Chrisi's garden on a garden chair of Victory.....
I would like to say that I do not usully boast about defeating people...but wait!!!!!
In this case it really deserves a mention,as the LOSER at hand spent the last hour using every known trick, insult and boast to gain his own chair of victory,
And ended up nothing but a big FAT LOSER!!!!!!
I will not mention any names, but know this Russell,
an army does not alweays win a game!!!!!

Well done Heidi, I salute your win and extend my courteous hand in congratulation. I was a decisive victory. Kudos mate.

But...

Not that I wish to take anything from Heidi's win (which in all other aspects was largely well deserved) I do feel that I must however point out that this result did hinge around one key piece of, I have to say, rather ungallant behaviour on the victor's part that I suspect snatched victory from my hands. You see having played the robber - which regretably I was forced to place on one of the hexs controlled by my honoured and estimed opponent - I neglected to take the required card from her hand. Suddenly aware of this critical mistake a moment later, I was alarmed to discover that play had moved on. When I politely asked if I could now take this card from her hand, as required by the rules (in the sake of fairness and good gamesmanship - well gameswomanship in this case) my suggestion was rejected with I must say considerable spite and venom.

Alas this single uncharitable act was to cost me the game, as I never fully recoverd my lead after that, but still well done Heidi, well done...

That was a very good game of Settlers of Catan, although I feel i should comment that the dice did seem to be rolling 6's with some alarming frequency (about 90% of the time) which never left me with the remotest of chances at accumulating any resources right from the start (Nb: I needed rolls of 4, 8, 9, and 10 which rarely if ever came up). I was also surprised that the Robber rarely made an appearance until very late in the game which is odd considering that a roll of 7 (on two d6's) must statistically be the most common roll?

If you're thinking this sounds very suspicious then you're not alone and the only explanation I can think of is that one of my opponents may have cast a dark-ritual (Twisted Evil) before the game started (perhaps when my back was turned to make the tea) and then sold their soul in an attempt to sway their chances of an unholy victory in their favour....hmmm

But nevertheless it was great fun and a well earned victory Heidi - especially concerning your achievement at enabling Russ to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, and also in building the 'Longest Road' by quite some considerable mile (pun intended)!

Although I only managed a trifling 5 victory points (pity poor Hiss), I was perfectly happy to content myself instead with the consolation of having the nicest cul-de-sac (which I think is deserving of 1 victory point dont you think). And although Russ had the Biggest Army and Heidi had the Longest Road, I was happy to console myself at eating the 'Longest chocolate bar' which should worthy of at least a further 1/2 victory point too!!
