Blu-Ray Player
On a trip to Asda today found a Phillips Blu-Ray player for £97. Had to buy it. Looks like the replacement i-pod will have to wait .
Nice player although ironically they didn't have the Trek movie on Blu-Ray so i'll have to wait to pick that up. Also plays avi, div-x etc from disc.
Be warned though, doesn't include an HDMI cable in the box so that was another £10. Still cheaper than Amazon or Currys, however.

Re: Blu-Ray Player
just watched a bit of "The Dark Knight" dvd through the new player and it looks lovely, so the upscaling seems to help as well.

Sounds good, is this the one with the USB/DiVX support?

It will play div-x from disc. It does have a usb port but this is supposedly for firmware upgrades from usb stick. The manual says it won't play media from usb devices but I have no means of testing. That said, I found an easy hack so it will now play multi-region dvds as well which is handy. I can live with playing avis from discs. It's a lot easier than burning the films to dvd to watch.
