Dungeon Delve

Post by agentofping on 30th May 2009, 05:05

As we are looking for a pick-up game for next Thursday, I could probably run a quick D&D 4th edition game if people are interested.

Excellent. It is a nice piece of software, very easy to use and takes the pain out of the various calculations.

I was going to knock up somecharacters myself but if people want to do their own no problem. The best party is composed of all 4 roles (defender, striker, controller, leader). I would recommend for this game that people stick with the basic party of fighter, rogue, cleric and wizard. Let me know your preferences and either create them yourself or I will do it.

Yep, I can print it out. This may not be my final character. I'm still playing about with it.

Well as I mentioned I'm going for the party 'ideal'; fighter, wizard, rogue and cleric. I have created 3 PCs that fit the bill (assuming that the rogue is already done). These are Dwarf fighter, Elf Wizard and Human Cleric. I won't be creating any more PCs but if you want to create some more and bring them along feel free - it will give more choice.

One weeker. Basically I'm running a delve which is a series of 3 linked (combat) encounters designed to fit into an evening's play. In theory we could play the whole thing in an evening, but as this is the first time I've run the system that may not happen.

Saying that if people want to continue it I have no problems - assuming that I enjoy it of course...

Ok, to avoid duplication of effort, shall we assume we use your three characters and my rogue and say that's the party unless anyone wants desperately to create their own? bI'll print out the rogue sheet and bring it on Monday. On a slightly divergent note, I do think this character builder is one of the best i've ever used and needs zero reference to the book. Very good tool and i'd love to see a free Savage Worlds equivalent.

No problem. I just wanted to make sure there were 4 characters available and create an optimal party which we have. I would have created a rogue, but you beat me to it. Wink

Mike

As per Russ' earlier comments you don't need to generate a character, he's already done that.

But if you want to create your own character no problem. For best effect there should be a character class' from each of the 4 'roles':-

Defender: Fighter, Paladin
Striker: Rogue, Ranger, Warlock
Controller: Wizard
Leader: Cleric, Warlord

Also for those interested I highly recommend the Penny Arcade/PVP DnD podcast(s) especially the first series. They are bloody funny, but also teach the basics of the game very well. Episode 1 here

Sorry to say it probably isn't going to be much of a game with only 3 players (the encounters are designed for a party of 5!). So has anybody got anything else or do we just scrub tonight?

I apologise for having to pull out at the last minute but can't be helped. Surely you can just run the game as is with three and see how it goes?

No problem, I can run it pretty much any time as it is intended as a pick up game. I may be able to knock something else together, but I only have a few hours so stay tuned to this channel...
